Help Address Homelessness in Austin
As part of the Homeless Assistance System, the City of Austin collaborates with agencies, community organizations, and individuals working to make homelessness rare, brief, and nonrecurring. If you’re here to learn more about what’s happening, you can:

Austin Public Health Homeless Social Service Funding
Through our partnerships, Austin Public Health (APH) provides funding to social service providers to serve homeless individuals and families with outreach and navigation, emergency shelter services, rapid rehousing, permanent supportive housing, homelessness prevention, and planning with the Ending Community Homelessness Coalition. There are City-wide homeless initiatives that are supported by Austin Public Health's funding as described below.
City/County Shelter Facilities:
- Austin Resource Center for the Homeless
The ARCH is a City-owned facility providing shelter and resources in downtown Austin, managed by Urban Alchemy and Austin Area Urban League. It offers emergency shelter, basic services and connections to housing for 130 men. Several co-located agencies offer case management, job placement services, legal assistance, veteran services, mental health services, and healthcare through the CommUnity Care Clinic.
- Austin Shelter for Women and Children
The Austin Shelter for Women and Children is a County-owned facility operated by the Salvation Army through contracted funding from the City. The emergency shelter serves single adult women and women and their dependents. Services include case management, job training, and housing location.
