Eligible homeowners and renters who have difficulty entering, leaving, or moving about their home, or have a visual or hearing impairments can receive grants of up to $15,000 in home accessibility improvements.
• Wheel chair ramps
• Door widening
• Buzzing or flashing devices (for people with visual/hearing impairment)
• Accessible door handles
• Accessible showers, shower grab bars, and shower wands
• Accessible sinks and faucet handles
• Elevated toilets
Eligibility to the ABR program is limited to households within the Austin city limits whose incomes are 80% or less of the median family income (MFI) and which are the residence of someone at least 62 years older or severely disabled. For renters, prior landlord approval is required.
